How To Defeat Fear Every Day Of Your Life And Live Like An Unstoppable Superhero

Don Green, Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, and TW Walker flexing muscles!

It’s often said that once you’re able to get past your fears the world opens up to you, and I happen to believe that’s true. However, I also believe that, for most, getting past your fears is a daunting task that sometimes is overlooked because of yet another fear. So basically we’re accompanied by fear everywhere we go, at every turn, and unless you figure out which fears are plaguing you and come up with a workable plan to conquer and control them once and for all, they will always lurk close by ready to inject themselves into your every day life.

Since analogies and metaphors are part of the world we live in I, too, like to use them every chance I get to explain certain things in a way that the mind can quickly grasp.

So for this article I’ve chosen to use the Superhero analogy for two reasons: one, because of their prevalence in our world today because of Hollywood and major motion pictures, and two, because of my own unique experience with them that started when I was a kid. I want to share with you the backstory on this so you will understand exactly why the metaphor can be so effective in helping you achieve what I call “Superhero Success”.

It’s really kind of funny, but when you stop and think about it, a Superhero is not really a super human “being”, but really a metaphor of power within the common vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and fears we all deal with at some level.  And it’s because of this fundamental belief, combined with my passion for Superheroes that started when I was a little boy, combined with my keen understanding of Dr. Napoleon Hill’s own philosophy on success that my own philosophy has evolved.

I’ve narrowed down Hill’s philosophy and put a Superhero spin on it. I’ve broken it down into what I feel are the four key pillars of success from which all else extends: character, attitude, perseverance, and enthusiasm – CAPE.  And when you put the CAPE in your CAPE-ability®, your ‘ability’ quickly transforms into super human powers. You combine that with a solid plan of action, THEN you can stand proud as the go-to, unstoppable Superhero in your life and business.

More importantly….THEN you can make a real difference in this world we all share, just like a Superhero does. So strap on your CAPE and let me share how all this can work for you…

The impact of Superheroes all got started for me when I was not quite 4 years old when I was openly struck by a speeding car that crushed nearly every bone on the left side of my body. I wasn’t expected to make it through the night, then they didn’t think I’d make it through the week, then they didn’t think I’d make it through the month, then they didn’t know what to think!

So, while spending a little over 6 weeks in traction in the hospital with all kinds of pins holding my body together, my mom would bring me a new comic book every day to read. Usually it was Superman, but sometimes it was some other Superhero, so my love and appreciation of Superheroes grew quickly.

After this 6 week adventure, the doctors put me in a full body cast where I spent the next 9 months….this time the doctors all thought I’d be permanently handicapped. Then they thought I’d have one leg shorter than the other, and after the cast finally came off, again, they didn’t know what to think.

Although this time in my body cast and the intense physical therapy I endured thereafter was excruciatingly painful for me, physically, I still remember laughing and joking with all my friends and family. So I quickly learned the importance of enthusiasm to get through rough spots in life.

It was also during this time in my body cast that I got the crazy idea to rent out my Big Wheel because I was bit preoccupied with another adventure called healing. Every kid in the neighborhood was asking me if they could ride it, and where I got the idea to start charging for it I don’t know, but an entrepreneur was born. Also being born within me was the importance of a positive attitude and perseverance.

During my recovery, I had to spend a lot of time inside, so I doodled a LOT, and over time learned how to draw funny pictures pretty well. Soon it became a passion of mine and since I already had a love of cartoons and comics, specifically superheroes, I would always sketch out my favorite superheroes with my own unique twists. This led to an early career of publishing my own comic strip.

This article was not intended to be a biography of me, but to share some of my story to illustrate that breakthroughs often happen during the most trying circumstances. It’s also to illustrate the power of metaphors and how YOU can utilize them to make improvements in your own life.

I coined the term “Superhero Success” from all I’ve been through and what Superheroes tend to universally mean to people: Overcoming great obstacles, utilizing a core strength to serve others, learning how to stand as one amongst many in the process, and the list goes on. But one thing is for certain, and this is the biggest lesson we can learn from Superheroes…a Superhero is something that starts from the inside of each and every one of us.

So what does it really mean to achieve Superhero success in life and business? How do YOU really attain it?

To me it all starts by setting S.U.P.E.R. goals. Specific, Urgent, Planned, Exciting, and Relevant. You then back that up with your H.E.R.O. (Habits, Excellence, Responsibility, Outcomes.), and you’re well on your way to achieving Superhero status in life and business.

Once you expand your CAPE-ability®, set SUPER goals, and back them up with your inner HERO, you’ve just built the foundation to accomplish anything you set your mind to, because fear will no longer play a leading role and be at the forefront of your life. Fear is caused or triggered by four things: lack of self confidence, not defining a primary or chief aim in your life, not creating or having a sound or accurate plan of action, and lack of knowledge [ignorance].

So above all else you need to strengthen self-confidence, define your chief aim in life, create an accurate plan of action and gain knowledge. One element leads to another, and once you have your CAPE in place and you have set your SUPERHERO goals, you start seeing more successes. Then when you have a record of successful experiences behind you, all fear vanishes!

I hope I have given you a new perspective on the great lessons of Dr. Hill and possibly this fun perspective has touched you in a different way than it ever has before. If it has, I have achieved my goal of continuing to carry forth his monumental message and support his cause to make the world a better place in which to live.

I will be speaking at an upcoming event in Denver, CO called Maximize Your Business. There I will be sharing information with a wonderful group of nearly 100 entrepreneurs about a “super” effective system I’ve developed for book promotion. This system will help any author capitalize on opportunities many don’t even realize are available to them, and it will also take them from average entrepreneur to Entrepreneur Superhero.

Check out the event here.

I support the Napoleon Hill foundation and their cause in every way possible. A portion of ALL proceeds from this event will be contributed to the Napoleon Hill foundation, but the Napoleon Hill Learning Center is not directly involved in putting on, promoting, recommending, or endorsing the event itself.

This article has been drawn into my CURRENT life’s comeback! It is awesome to realize that the UNIVERSE will give you exactly what you need once “you take possession of your own mind and direct it to whatever it is that you desire in life.” My life has gone full circle. RJRich
